THE SHED

Welcome to The Shed!

The Shed is a pint-sized music and poetry venue on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors. Created by Simon Thackray in 1992, 'it is one of the few venues in the country with a location as inspiring as its programme of live music and performance art.' Time Out: 1000 things to do in Britain
The Shed is renowned for presenting world-class music and poetry and for creating and staging the unique art events that are the 'essence of Shedness': The Yorkshire Pudding Boat Race®, Mrs Boyes' Bingo and Lol Coxhill in a skip are just a few.
NEW Sebastian Rochford's VAN GIG.

Based in the village of Hovingham (originally in Brawby), The Shed is close to the market towns of Malton, Helmsley, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside. We welcome people from across the UK and Europe who travel to hear the finest modern jazz, blues, folk, country, classical, world and improvised music, comedy, poetry and knitting in this intimate and friendly space (all performed in front of Simon's old shed door). With an audience of just over 100 people and candle-lit tables, the atmosphere is, well, Sheddy.

"For the past 18 years, The Shed, near the market town of Malton, has been responsible for some of the smallest and most inspired art events in the country.' Alfred Hickling Guardian

"And no matter how strange they sound, there always seem to be people prepared to come from miles away to get in on the act - artists, musicians and poets, as well as spectators.. ..the art world could do with more of his kind of far-reaching woolly thinking." Dominic Cavendish Daily Telegraph
