The hand knitted Elvis wig pattern is here and FREE to use. Brainchild of artist and The Shed head Simon Thackray, the knitted Elvis wig was specially designed by Sirdar to coincide with the world’s first North Yorkshire Elvis Bus Tour.

MATERIALS
FOR BASIC WIG
NOVA WIG
2 – 100gm balls of SIRDAR NOVA SUPER CHUNKY – shade 894 Black.
SNOWFLAKE CHUNKY WIG
2 – 50gm balls of SIRDAR SNOWFLAKE CHUNKY – shade 380 Black.
FUNKY FUR AND CSDK WIG
2 – 50gm balls of SIRDAR FUNKY FUR – shade 533 Angel Pink.
2 – 50gm balls of SIRDAR COUNTRY STYLE DK – shade 511.
Pair of 5 _ mm (UK 5 ) and 6 _ mm (UK 3) needles, [plus 4mm (UK 8) for heart motif on Funky Fur wig] . Crochet hook. Polyester filling for stuffing.

BASIC WIG USING SIRDAR NOVA CHUNKY
CAP PIECE
With 5 _ mm needles cast on 61sts.
1st ROW – Right side. *k1,p1; rep from * to last st, k1.
2nd ROW – *p1,k1; rep from * to last st, p1.
Change to 6 _ mm needles and cont as set until work measures 12cms [4 _ ins] from beg ending with a wrong side row.
Cont in st st beg with a knit row. Work 2 rows.
SHAPE TOP
1st DEC ROW – k1, *k2tog,k2; rep from * to end. 46sts.
Work 1 row.
2nd DEC ROW – k1, *k2tog,k1; rep from * to end. 31sts.
Work 1 row.
3rd DEC ROW – k1, *k2tog; rep from * to end. 16sts.
Work 1 row.
4th DEC ROW – *k2tog; rep from * to end. 8sts.
Break yarn and thread through sts, pull up tightly and secure. Sew centre back seam.

TOP WIG PIECE
With 6 _ mm needles cast on 14sts. Cont in st st beg with a knit row, AT THE SAME TIME, inc 1 st at both ends of the 3rd and 3 foll 4th rows, 22sts. Work 1 row.

1st INC ROW – Right side. k5, (M1, k4) 3 times, M1, k5. 26sts.

LEFT SIDEBURN
With right side facing and 6 _ mm needles cast on 7sts. Cont in st st beg with a knit row.
Work 4 rows.
NEXT ROW – Inc 1 st, knit to last 2sts, k2tog.
Work 3 rows.
Rep the last 4 rows, 3 times more. Cast off.

RIGHT SIDEBURN
Work as given for Left sideburn reversing shaping.

MAKE UP
Press side burns and back flap according to instructions given on ball band. With wrong side of cap to wrong side of top wig piece, back seam on cap to centre of back flap – sew cap piece to wig piece leaving back flap free. Turn out to right side and push cap into wig piece. Attach side burns between markers on each side. Stuff front, round sides and back, leaving centre crown unstuffed, then sl st back cap to back flap. Cut lengths of yarn approximately 10cms long, then cover the side burns and around base of wig from side burns to back flap and back flap, randomly thus:-
Fold a length of yarn in half then, with right side facing, push a crochet hook behind one stitch, pull the looped end of yarn through then the 2 loose ends through to knot.

SNOWFLAKE CHUNKY WIG
Work as given for NOVA CHUNKY wig but use 5 _ mm needles throughout.

FUNKY FUR AND COUNTRY STYLE DK WIG
Work as given for NOVA CHUNKY wig but use 5 _ mm needles, and working one strand of Funky Fur and one strand of Country Style DK together, throughout.

MAKE UP
As given for Nova Chunky wig but use Country Style DK only when working the fringing on side burns and back flap.

HEART MOTIF

MAKE 2 PIECES
With 4mm (UK 8) needles and Country Style DK cast on 3sts. Cont in st st beg with a knit row. Work 2 rows then inc 1 st at both ends of the next and 5 foll alt rows, 15sts. Work 1 row.
NEXT ROW – Right side. Knit 7sts, turn and work on these sts for first side.
NEXT ROW – Purl.
NEXT ROW – sl 1-k1-psso, knit 3, k2tog, 5sts.
NEXT ROW – Purl.
NEXT ROW – sl 1-k1-psso, k1, k2tog, 3sts.
NEXT ROW – Purl.
Cast off.
With right side facing, rejoin yarn at centre and cast off centre st then knit to end, 7sts. Complete as given for first side.
MAKE UP
With right sides tog, join heart motif round edges leaving a small gap at one side. Turn out to right side and stuff, close gap.
Make a plaited cord approximately 10cms [4ins] long. Attach one end to top centre of heart motif and other end to one side of wig in front of sideburn.
