East Germany 1989: A young man protests against the regime. His
mother witnesses his arrest, suffers a heart attack and falls
into a coma. When she awakes some months later the GDR has ceased
to exist. To avoid every excitement, the son tries to set up
the GDR again for her in their flat

When the ageing bachelor Zhao thinks he has finally met the woman
of his dreams he leads her to believe he is wealthy and agrees
to a wedding far beyond his means. Zhao's best friend Li hatches
the idea to raise the money by refurbishing an abandoned bus,
which they will rent out by the hour - the Happy Times Hotel.

Bosnia and Herzegovina during 1993. After various skirmishes,
two wounded soldiers, one Bosnian and one Serb, confront each
other in a trench in the no man's land between their lines. Things
get complicated when another wounded Bosnian comes to, but can't
move because a bouncing mine is beneath him. - Very poignant
anti-war film.

A sometimes humorous, often sad story about three generations

comes from the regular letters sent from Paris by the family's
adored son, Otar. When he has suddenly died in an accident at
work, mother and daughter try to conceal the truth from the grandmother,
changing the course of their lives forever.
